Event Management -
Automation
At the heart of Event Management is the ability to automate the handling of
issues related to "detectable & discernable occurrences". These occurrences can
be related to configuration items, environmental conditions, software license
monitoring, security and even normal activities.
Automation is key. Whether it is an action that runs a script (or stops one),
load balances some hardware or generate an alert the event is a trigger for the
requirement of other processes to be initiated.
The Event management process adds value to the organization in a variety of
ways. It permits proactive incident detection and remedy (fix), it automates
management by exception and supports other ITIL processes (in particular
availability and capacity). Finally Event Management allows technicians to spend
time on activities that are more appropriate to their skills (namely innovation
and improvements).
