LOS (Lines of Service)

LOS (Lines of Service) is a synonym for the Service Catalog (catalogue). A line of service (LOS) is created from a collection of Service Level Packages (SLP) and Core Service Packages (CSP).

Each LOS is managed by a product manager. This is usually a functional role (e.g. security los, super computing los, desktop los). The real power of the concept is seen when we combine different elements from different lines of service to deliver a customer outcome.

Importantly, the customer outcome is not restricted to a specific group. The outcome could be for multiple groups or even different individuals from a variety of customers. The outcome based delivery of customer needs is a critical element that helps to reduce the number of components that have to be managed by the service provider.
